March 5, 2011 - "Eating Crow" By Joseph Parish. Have you ever sat and carefully watched the size that a crow can frequently obtain? They are certainly not a small size bird in the least. Most locations in America have an over abundance of these fat creatures which often mature to the size of a Cornish game hen. To me that’s large enough to feed two adults with a meal and for them to leave the table full. In an emergency merely add some cooked rice or potatoes along with a few vegetables to the meal and your all set. Click here

The Islamic Demolition of the Statue of Liberty
March 4, 2011 - "The Islamic Demolition of the Statue of Liberty" One of the founding principles of the Islamic constitution is to ensure that all sovereignty and supremacy belongs solely to God; the Shari’ah is a practical manifestation of this sovereignty and supremacy because it seeks to establish His command in society. Now they are planning a renovation of one of our countries foremost landmarks. Time we fought back against these foreign invaders. Click here
Revenge on the pigeons
March 4, 2011 - "Revenge on the pigeons" By Joseph Parish. The next time you spend any time in a large city take note of the number of pigeons which flood the skyline. You can see them at just about anywhere where a bird can possibly fly or roost. During our last trip to the Philadelphia area I was afforded the opportunity to witness these birds in action. As I watched the large number walking around trying to beg for food I thought to myself what if the food situation was to get really bad how would the pigeon population hold up? I justified the thought with the idea that they are often considered somewhat of a delicacy usually known as squab. Click here

Canning Beans and Franks for those emergency times
March 3, 2011 - "Canning Beans and Franks for those emergency times" By Joseph Parish. When an emergency situation strikes we are almost certain to lose our capability to keep foods frozen and cold. When it gets to that point we stand to not only waste a lot of food but possibly go hungry in the process. In the event of power failure we would start our food consumption off by using up what meats and products are in our freezer first. Ice may be available for a very short period of time after the onset of a disaster but after that we are essentially on our own. Click here

How to Make Homemade Apple Cider
March 3, 2011 - "How to Make Homemade Apple Cider" Making and canning your own apple cider is easy. In fact, if you are making applesauce, you will probably have extra juice from cooking the apples! Here's how to make your own home canned apple cider (some call it apple cider, but it isn't fermented, so I don't think that really applies), complete instructions in easy steps and completely illustrated. The apple cider will taste MUCH better than anything you've ever had from a store, and by selecting the right apples, it will be so naturally-sweet that you won't need to add any sugar at all. People Eating Insects and Bugs - Wild Food School / FORAGING Times
March 2, 2011 - "People Eating Insects and Bugs - Wild Food School / FORAGING Times" Bugs and insects are eaten as part of the regular diet by around 2.5 billion people across the world. Many, many, more eat insects on an occasional basis. Although reviled in the west - mostly because of their appearance - and connections (some) with disease, plus destruction of crops, many insects are highly nutritious and SOME even taste really good when prepared properly. Here is a video on bed eating. Click here
Eating and Growing Cherry Trees
March 2, 2011 - "Eating and Growing Cherry Trees" By Joseph Parish. A week again I did some shopping at a Farmer’s Market in Newark, Delaware. Considering that it is the winter season their prices were extremely reasonable. Along with the usual fruits and vegetables that I gathered from their shelves I also purchased some beautiful cherries. I don’t frequently buy cherries due to their excessive prices but I made an exception this time. Click here

Sprouting Tray
March 1, 2011 - We traveled to Philadelphia yesterday to attend a meet-up seminar on “How to grow your own food in small spaces.” It was a very interesting session. One of the topics that were discussed was sprouting seeds for eating. As the speaker talked about the subject a sprouting tray was passed around the room. This Kitchen Seed Sprouter consisted of three different trays so that you could raise several different flavored sprouts at once. The unit resembled the older plastic canister sets from years past. I was so impressed with it that I intend to order two of them for our use. If anyone else is interested in this unique item they can be purchased at: http://www.victoriokitchenproducts.com/product.php?id=52
Sprouting Seeds like a Pro
March 1, 2011 - "Sprouting Seeds like a Pro" By Joseph Parish. During our recent skill set seminar in Philadelphia they covered the topic of sprouting seeds. The presenter was very knowledgeable on the issue and I thought I would pass on some of the information which I gained for my readers benefit. Sprouting seeds is a fairly straight forward and simple process. It takes very little of your time and the end result can provide a tasty new treat for your evening salad or your favorite bowl of soup. click here

Cleanup and Disposal of CFL’s New EPA Guidelines
February 28, 2011 - "Cleanup and Disposal of CFL’s New EPA Guidelines" With upcoming changes in laws regarding the sale of incandescent bulbs in both the US and Canada, the safe cleanup and disposal of compact florescent bulbs (CFLs) is even more important. As we know already, CFLs contain mercury, which means that if you have a broken bulb, simply sweeping it up and tossing it into the trash isn't considered safe disposal. Click here
The Fresh maker
February 28, 2011 - "The Fresh maker" by Kristina Hoglund. You walk into a gas-station convenience store which is never a charming place, even in the best of times and are instantly overcome by the artificial scent blast from the air freshener display. An assault on your nostrils, the smell is anything but natural. Herewith, we offer an alternative, organic version of the ha8ging odor eater. We made ours in traditional shapes like the ubiquitous conifer and a lemon. No doubt you’ll cook up some more imaginative rearview candy. Click here

How to Make Vegetable Dye
February 26, 2011 - "How to Make Vegetable Dye" I found a page from an old book all about creating vegetable dyes! The author and source are unknown, but the dyes are absolutely gorgeous! These are not just beet juice dyes, they are made to last and come from plants you might find in your own backyard or out on a nature walk. Let's start with dyeing wool, since according to this vegetable dye elder that is the easiest material to work with, before graduating to silk, linens, and cottons. Click here
