Many a man has suffered untold privations, and many more have lost their lives, while surrounded with food and all the necessities of life, merely through ignorance of the woods and wild life, or through inability to wrest a livelihood from nature.

Survivalist Bugging Out basics

March 24, 2010 - "Survivalist Bugging Out basics" By Joseph Parish. As a well prepared Survivalist we all have some sort of bug out plan in place to evacuate an area by vehicle if necessary. When initiating such a plan ones first question rightfully so has to be what I will need to carry with me and the second one should be where I am heading to. When you think about it when you are leaving one rural location for another is a far different approach then if one must escape an urban area. The size of ones family is equally important as well for determining ones course of actions. Click here

March 2, 2010 - "Understanding Earthquakes" By Joseph Parish. As survivalists and preppers we all know that there are dangers available at every location or state in America. It is our responsibility to minimize these hazards as much as we possibly can. As such it would behoove us to know how to read an earthquake. Becoming Self Sufficient

March 1, 2010 - "Becoming Self Sufficient" By Joseph Parish. The term self reliance refers to the practice of one being able to be totally dependent only upon themselves while possessing the necessary skills and ability to take care of themselves in any type of situation. Often new people inquire as to how they can be self sufficient and not have to rely upon the big corporations of America for their survival. To this question, I merely suggest that the ultimate self reliant status that they achieve will depend primarily upon just how much they are willing to give up. That’s right folks, in every sweet deal of life there are certain trade off that must be made. Click here

Expiration Dates of canned foods

February 26, 2010 - "Expiration Dates of canned foods" By Joseph Parish. One of the most frequent questions often asked by preppers who have recently begun their food storage program is how long specific foods will last before going bad. Although many companies list expiration dates for their products, I generally have found these were more of a CYA then anything else. Usually the corporation would rather err on the side of safety then risk a legal entanglement. I personally do not place much value in these dates for I have eaten canned vegetables that have expiration dates 5 years in the past. Click here

Bug out to North Carolina

February 19, 2010 - "Bug out to North Carolina" By Joseph Parish. We decided to mix pleasure with work and combined our winter Bug Out exercise with visiting my youngest son in North Carolina. This particular outing with the Dolphin motor home revealed many weak spots revolving around our trip planning. With that fact understood I started to investigate a better method of packing the RV. BOV RV Modifications I

February 7, 2010 - "BOV RV Modifications I" By Joseph Parish. Our new bug out vehicle is a Dolphin Motor Home which has some 116,000 miles on it and it is still running strong. It takes a lot to kill those old 22R Toyota engines. We purchased our Dolphin for use as a BOV in the early part of 2010. It is a model 400 which places the sofa behind the driver seat and the bathroom in the rear. Like anyone else who owns a motor home we take pride in the modifications that we have planned for our Dolphin BOV. All modifications listed here are planned for our own use only and we will not be responsible for anyone else’s use of these modifications. Click here

Saving Strawberry Seeds and Dehydrating

January 23, 2010 - "Saving Strawberry Seeds and Dehydrating" By Joseph Parish. When it comes to strawberries you may be planning to grow your own, in such case you might possibly consider saving the strawberry seeds from the best plants that you have encountered. These plants should naturally be disease resistant and easy to care for. If you decide to save seeds from your strawberry plants then allow the fruit to over ripen before it is picked. In short, it should be slightly squishy. Place these over ripe berries into a fine holed kitchen strainer and gently shove the pulp through the sieve in order to separate the seed from the fruit. Try not to crush the seeds. Click here

George Orwell's 1984

December 31, 2009 - "George Orwell's 1984" Get out the popcorn kiddies, its time for a movie. This movie is about the George Orwell novel entitled 1984. Nineteen Eighty-Four was originally published in 1949 as a dystopian novel about the totalitarian regime of the Party, an oligarchic collectivist society where life in the Oceanian province of Airstrip One is a world of perpetual war, pervasive government surveillance, public mind control, and the voiding of citizens' rights. In the Ministry of Truth (Mini-true), protagonist Winston Smith is a civil servant responsible for perpetuating the Party's propaganda by revising historical records to render the Party omniscient and always correct, yet his meager existence disillusions him into rebellion against Big Brother, which leads to his arrest, torture, and conversion. Sure does sound similar to what we are heading to today under our current regime. Click here
