November 22, 2010 - "Inverter or UPS" By Joseph Parish. Last evening I had a discussion with a like minded individual who felt that he could readily use inverters and UPS units interchangeably. Although the two types of power units may share some similar characteristics they are actual two different “animal”. Click here

The Joy of Flavored Butters

November 22, 2010 - "The Joy of Flavored Butters" By Joseph Parish. We are a family that bakes the majority of our own bread ranging from the usual sandwich style to the more elaborate flavored breads. I find nothing better then to sit down and munch away on some fresh garlic or herbal flavored bread however generally it is made in quantities of two loafs. The problem with this stems from the fact that if another member of the family does not particularly like that flavor there is usually wasted bread. To remedy that problem we often use flavored butters and spread it on regular pieces of our homemade bread. Click here

Surviving the Emperors New Clothing

November 22, 2010 - "Surviving the Emperors New Clothing" By Joseph Parish. We’ve all heard the tale of the emperor’s new clothes and as a survivalist I often wonder how long after the balloon goes up would it be until we start wearing similar clothing? Few people take into consideration the need to replace our attire in a post crisis America. Click here

Survivalist First Aid Checklist

November 22, 2010 - "Survivalist First Aid Checklist" By Joseph Parish. One can search the internet all day long and continually come up with another first aid checklist. Usually they all seem to contain similar items. Granted the products listed are critical in the event of a crisis but often the notations can provide a new insight into what otherwise appears as redundant. Hopefully, I have a least included some hints in my list that may have been missing from the others. If that’s the case then I feel I have accomplished my goal. Click here

There’s something about Hot Dogs

November 21, 2010 - "There’s something about Hot Dogs" By Joseph Parish. One of my favorite foods is the common hot dog. I view the frankfurter to be a better tasting food then the ever popular hamburger. When you take a good quality dog and add some brown mustard onto the roll it becomes paradise unlimited. Have you ever stopped to wonder where this strange food originated from? It certainly appears to be an all American traditional food as we readily find it at our baseball games around the country. Let’s face it a baseball game is not complete without a couple of good tasting dogs. Click here

Veterans Burial Benefits

November 21, 2010 - "Veterans Burial Benefits" By Joseph Parish. The vast majority of survivalists are veterans whether it be the current Iraqi wars or as in my case the Vietnam era conflict. As a veteran these brave men and women are afforded certain burial rights for the completion of their service to our country. The rights include the burial within a national cemetery as well as other benefits for the deceased veteran’s family. I would like to briefly review a few of these benefits as they relate to the death of the service member. Click here

Great for more than Lemon-Aid

November 21, 2010 - "Great for more than Lemon-Aid" By Joseph Parish. As survivalist we continually search for items which can “multitask” so to speak. We want supplies which can generally perform more with then a single work assignment. This saves us valuable space when planning our retreat or home emergency supplies. Here are a few of my favorite uses for lemons which perform well outside of their intended environment. Click here

A Travel Bucket for Retreat Visitors

November 20, 2010 - "A Travel Bucket for Retreat Visitors" By Joseph Parish. Visitors who arrive at your retreat are generally viewed with suspicion and your goal is to move them out as soon as possible. With your limited provisions strangers are usually not welcome to stay however it is often difficult to send them away empty hand especially if children are involved. The humane thing to do would be to offer them some meager supplies and bits of food and water and than see them off. Click here

Saving some of your energy dollar

November 18, 2010 - "Saving some of your energy dollar" By Joseph Parish. Our countries need for energy has placed us at the mercy of foreign interests as the cost relating to our power needs has sky rocketed out of control. It is no longer a matter of a few cents increase but rather the rates are escalating with dollar signs in front of the figures. November 14, 2010 - "General Seed Saving for Beginners" By Joseph Parish. Most people’s gardens have either come to a close for the season or are very close to that point. This time of year has its good points as well as the bad. We look sadly as our gardens end and we pull the last of our crop from the field, but on the other hand there is encouragement for the next season when we harvest the seeds obtained from our wonderful plants. November 12, 2010 - "And Yet another Survival Kit" By Joseph Parish. No one can deny that a survival kit can be one of the most important assets which you can take with you when there is a crisis at hand. These kits are usually planned and created to ensure your safety and well being when you are un-expectantly traveling far from your survival retreat. Naturally, the key factor here is that you should make sure your kit is the best that you can create for your location as well as the time of the year. A well balanced survival kit should be a custom creation which would contain all the necessary survival items that you personally will need. Click here

The Influence of Inflation on the Survival Budget

November 12, 2010 - "The Influence of Inflation on the Survival Budget" By Joseph Parish. The largest affect that we will experience with runaway inflation is going to be the elevated costs that we encounter when purchasing our foods. I have noticed in my own part of the nation that the local farmers have quickly come to realize that they can make a better return for their efforts if they sell their corn to the bio-fuel manufactures as opposed to using their crops for human consumption. When considering the increased costs which have trickled down to the farmer with the higher then normal energy prices we simply can not hold it against them for wanting to make the best of their time and investments.
