Your Cadbury Easter Eggs are finished

April 9, 2009 - "Your Cadbury Easter Eggs are finished" By Joseph Parish. Here it is Easter time again and which of you do not remember the famous Cadbury Crème Egg usually given to you on Easter morning. The Cadbury Chocolate Egg was originally produced by a British company known as Cadbury Schweppes. How well we all recall the thick milk chocolate outer shell and the yellow and white filling that represented yolk of a real egg. Click here

Rhubarb Lamb Rub Jelly

April 3, 2009 - "Rhubarb Lamb Rub Jelly" By Joseph Parish. Every Easter my grandfather would make his lamb and without failure he would coat it with mint jelly. Needless to say I grew to dislike mint jelly greatly. As an adult I figured it was high time to come up with something a bit different then that which my grandfather used so I now use a Rhubarb jelly to do what the mint jelly did previously. Click here

Fresh home Cured Olives

April 1, 2009 - "Fresh Home Curing Olives" By Joseph Parish. Being from a Greek family and my wife’s step father being Italian we both enjoy some good olives when we can find them. Usually we like those that are still in the brine and not so much the ones that you purchase in the jars. However in a pinch either will do just nicely. Click here

Oh Fiddleheads

March 30, 2009 - "Oh Fiddleheads" by Joseph Parish. Few people may know what a fiddlehead is however if you do not you should make it a point to find out because you are missing a very delightful treat. Fiddleheads are young fern leaves which grow in a coil. They are approximately one inch in diameter. They originate from the ostrich fern. Keep in mind that all ferns develop fiddleheads however the best and safest are those from the ostrich fern. Click here

Can you still find Fogs to eat?

March 5, 2009 - "Can you still find frogs to eat?" By Joseph Parish. I recently read that the high demand for frog legs for human consumption has been making these creatures a bit on the scarce side. It appears that there is a vast decline in frog population in the wild due to over exploitation of them for foods both in America and Europe. It will not be long before the number of catches that you can have will be limited. In fact I fully expect that you will be required to have a Frog license just the same as a fishing license is currently required. Click here

January 8, 2009 - Here is another article that I have wrote concerning homemade pickling spices. Canning recipes generally call for "Pickling Spices" in preserving dill pickles, sweet pickle or perhaps sour pickles. Actually anything that you pickle you will need to use a similar spice even if it is pickled vegetables. Click here

An Abundance of Pemmican Recipes

January 7, 2009 - "An Abundance of Pemmican Recipes" by Joseph Parish. I couldn't pass up writing an article of my own on this great survival food. Pemmican is traditionally considered a travel type of food that was popular with the Native North Americans. It generally consisted of slices of buffalo meat or lean venison that had been previously sun dried, then pounded into a paste and finally packed with a mixture of melted fat. This food was then stored in small rawhide bags until needed. Fruits such as wild berries or dried currants were often added to the paste while creating it. Click here
