Another Natural Boundary

December 31, 2010 - "Another Natural Boundary" By Joseph Parish. Once again a reader has expressed concern over being able to protect ones retreat or homestead area with the least amount of force necessary. In all reality this is a very large order since anyone with a firm determination to get onto your land will eventually succeed. The main object that we are looking at here is to make it extremely uncomfortable for them to try. Click here

Let’s Can Some Homemade Sausage

December 25, 2010 - "Let’s Can Some Homemade Sausage" By Joseph Parish. Think back for a moment to your days as a child growing up on the family farm. Everything you ate seemed to be the freshest of foods from the vegetables that were placed on your plate to the meats that you cooked on the grill. It is hard these days to duplicate those same flavors in the foods we get from today’s supermarkets. click here

We have some friends who own and operate school buses and with the current high operating cost she has seriously considered stopping her bus service. The logic presented in converting an older school bus for this essential purpose is as follows. Click here

Critical needs for our Food Supply

December 23, 2010 - "Critical needs for our Food Supply" By Joseph Parish. Let’s think for a moment just how fragile our food supply logistics really is. We have our local grocery stores which usually receive their stock from a master chain distributor. Generally the grocery store does not stock more then a week’s supply of food at any one time. Usually that amount is reduced to 72 hours worth of food being on the shelves at any moment. They frequently will re-stock their shelves as the supplies arrive meaning they have no spare cases in the back waiting to be put on the shelves. Click here

Mutual Aid between Retreats

December 20, 2010 - "Mutual Aid between Retreats" By Joseph Parish. In the emergency response business it is common knowledge that cities will request assistance from their neighbors when confronted by a local disaster or crisis. If their needs are beyond their immediate capabilities they contact the neighbors and ask for assistance whether it is to borrow equipment or for supplies. Such actions make very good sense however as with any actions relating to emergency management this must also be planned for and coordinated before it is actually needed. Click here

None dare call it looting

December 19, 2010 - "None dare call it looting" By Joseph Parish. It doesn’t take very long after a disaster occurs before the various crimes start to happen. In no time at all we see ruthless events taking place that show total disregard for other individuals. Stores are looted and robbed within 24 hours of the emergency condition beginning. My question to this is whether it is looting or a case of scavenging. Click here

Recycling number ten cans

December 19, 2010 - "Recycling number ten cans" By Joseph Parish. Any time you have survivalists you also have those large number 10 cans that are used to store their dehydrated foods in. When new cans of food are introduced to your pantry the older ones should be used up first. Click here

My friend’s freezer was loaded with their usual meats such as chicken, pork chops, deer meat and turkey however they deliberately choose the squirrel in order to familiarize my wife with the texture and taste of it.
