Shipping Rate of Survival Supplies

March 21, 2009 - "Shipping Rates of Survival Supplies" By Joseph Parish. While aimlessly drifting from one survival store to the other on the internet recently I noticed that numerous people had been complaining about the venders cost of shipping survival related items. I too have experienced this dilemma predominantly with e-bay stores. It never stops astounding me how many people can turn out to be extremely ravenous during periods when they should feel most generous. Click here

Survival Radio Station

March 20, 2009 - We are currently considering the possibility of putting an internet radio online. I would certainly be interested in some feedback in regards to whether you as a survivalist would use the radio if it were installed. Please let me known by email at joseph.parish@survival-training.info

How Far Can You Go?

March 20, 2009 - "How far can you go?" By Joseph Parish. I have always been very keen on imagining scenarios and events that can perchance curtail a necessary bug out. In fact, I pride myself in perceiving just how far I am able to travel safely when bugging out becomes necessary. By safely I mean a combination of an tolerable distance, mileage that is reasonable and the lack of un-necessary delays. Let me take a moment and go into a little further detail in relation to these requirements. Click here

The nuisance of biting bugs during a bug out

March 19, 2009 - "The nuisance of biting bugs during a bug out" By Joseph Parish. Proper planning must be taken in order to ensure that you and your family are not devoured by biting bugs during a bug out. Most of the current insect repellents on the market today use DEET as the active ingredient. You will find it in just about the entire over the counter product line that you can purchase. Supposedly, the DEET in the repellants today can be safely used on children as young as two months old as well as on adults. Click here

Dangerous Drinks

March 18, 2009 - "Dangerous Drinks" By Joseph Parish. It has been suggested that specific soft drinks can provoke havoc with your health. As survivalists this can be extremely important for our preparedness plans. We of course are concerned about our families health and at the same time we are wondering about including soft drinks in our preparedness supplies. Click here

The Value of a Cell Phone for Survivalists

March 18, 2009 - "The value of a cell phone for survivalists" By Joseph Parish. Cell phones can be a functional tool when united with your survivalist efforts. In my family we all have our own cell phones. Several are not formally turned on meaning that there is no time on them or they are not connected to any sort of network, but these phones still perform as a 911 relay. Click here

Time to check out your supplies

March 17, 2009 - "Time to check out your Supplies" By Joseph Parish. Well, we recently changed our clocks and at the same time we were advised to replace the batteries in our smoke detectors. Although this is sensible recommendations, I think that it should have been extended just a wee bit more and ought to have incorporated inspecting our preparedness supplies as well. Click here

The Dilemma of the Pay Phone

March 16, 2009 - "The dilemma of the Pay Phone" By Joseph Parish. Years ago I can remember that if you required the use of a telephone you could readily discover a nearby payphone. If your mother or father were like mine and they instructed you to phone home at a precise time then by golly you had better be calling home or else. To comply you had merely to pause at the local street corner of town long enough to make your needed phone call and then you were happily back doing what ever you were previously. You basically had no excuse for not doing so. You could drive down the local main street of town and notice that payphones were easily available on just about every street within the town. The Value of Cats when TSHTF

March 15, 2009 - "The Value of Cats when TSHTF" By Joseph Parish. Traditionally a good number of people often judge cats as a municipal nuisance. This perception likely stems from the outward determination towards their free will and their independent nature, however I would like to communicate a brief article here in support of the felines during extended periods of crisis. Our Social Systems have drastic Problems

March 14, 2009 - "Our Social Systems have drastic problems" By Joseph Parish. Most working people will readily admit that they despise the current welfare system. In all surveys that are conducted among the working class it is felt that the welfare benefits should be immediately stopped. Unfortunately most people feel that if someone can not work due to their physical limitations or to an illness they should be provided social security. Folks this is certainly not the right approach to resolve this dilemma. I fully agree about placing a halt upon the welfare system but don't transfer the worthless assets to the social security system. Click here

The Deer are in the Garden

March 13, 2009 - "The Deer are in the Garden" By Joseph Parish. How often have you glanced out your backdoor only to catch a glimpse of a deer happily devouring your favorite tomato plants? It has happened to me in the past and it may happen to you now. Picture some over-weight, middle age man leaping out his backdoor to chase away some hungry deer and you have a picture of me doing the shoo-deer chase! Click here

But I don't have a dehydrator

March 12, 2009 - "But I don’t have a dehydrator" By Joseph Parish. You perhaps may already be familiar with various ways to preserve food such as by canning, freezing or making jelly. If so you are in for an overwhelming surprise as you try to dehydrate your next year’s garden foods. Drying food is not difficult and the final product can certainly be a valuable asset to your kitchen foods. I have often heard people make excuses that “I can’t dry those foods because I do not have a dehydrator”. Click here

Should we be Mad?

March 11, 2009 - "Should we be mad?" By Joseph Parish. Well it seems like the old saying that persistence pays off is true. Congress has approved and sent its outrageous spending bill up to Obama for his final signature. Although some of the GOP members were completely against the bill it still passed without any sort of problems what-so-ever. Click here

Bug out Camp

March 11, 2009 - "Bug out Camp" By Joseph Parish. Everyday I pick up the daily newspaper and read about another small business closing their doors or even worse I see major corporations requesting additional government funds in order to continue their operations. These types of newspaper headlines tend to scare the dickens out of me. Obama’s budget breaking stimulus plan does not appear to be having much of an effect upon this situation in the least. A Case for the missing fertilizer

March 11, 2009 - "A case for the missing fertilizer. By Joseph Parish. Recently the world has been experiencing a rash of thief’s that center around common but dangerous farm chemical fertilizers. Can Jocks get away with anything?

March 10, 2009 - "Can Jocks get away with anything?" By Joseph Parish. Give me a break! They are claiming that Charles Barkley is not receiving any sort of special treatment as he serves his 3 days in jail. Three days! Wow. Somehow that doesn’t seem like much time when you stop to consider the number of days that a victim from a drunken driving accident will spend in the grave. Click here

How your Spouse feels about your preparedness efforts

March 10, 2009 - "How your spouse feels about your preparedness efforts" By Joseph Parish. Years ago as I began to store up on food my family looked at me with strange glances. They really thought I had lost my marbles. Along came Y2K and as I increased my preparedness efforts the looks increased drastically. The going joke in the home was that the food being stored was my children’s inheritance. (Think about that statement for a few minutes and you will see the true value in it). Click here

Are we seeing the end of Lead Ammunition?

March 9, 2009 - "Are we seeing the end of Lead ammunition?" By Joseph Parish. It was Friday evening and my friend Wayne and I were having one of our usual survival topic conversations and the topic eventually got around to lead shot for shells. It seems that Wayne had notice something somewhere which stated that many of the states are considering banning Lead content in bullets and shotgun shells. Click here

On the value of MP3 Players in Bug Out Vehicles

March 9, 2009 - "On the value of MP3 Players in Bug Out vehicles" By Joseph Parish. When we reach the point of no return and have to make that ultimate decision as to stay or go we want to do so with as little discomfort as possible. I know this sounds a little petty however lets consider for one moment the amount of time that we could perhaps be in hiding. One month? Perhaps several months? Maybe even as much as 6 to 12 months. In a case like that I could just about guarantee that radio stations will no longer be broadcasting. Television will certainly be non-existent at this time. Even if the infrastructure was still present most operators and maintenance people would be with their families and not at work. Click here

Predicament of the Army mom

March 9, 2009 - "Predicament of the Army mom" By Joseph Parish. Here we have a grave situation. Rhubarb Lamb Rub Jelly

March 8, 2009 - "Rhubarb Lamb Rub Jelly" By Joseph Parish. Every Easter my grandfather would make his lamb and without failure he would coat it with mint jelly. Needless to say I grew to dislike mint jelly greatly. As an adult I figured it was high time to come up with something a bit different then that which my grandfather used so I now use a Rhubarb jelly to do what the mint jelly did previously. Click here

Homemade Cat Food

March 7, 2009 - "Homemade cat food" By Joseph Parish. Many people have to make provisions to tend to their pets when TSHTF so here is one idea for the feline sector. It was not unusual for my wife to awaken early in the morning and make our shar pei dogs Bubba and Bubbles a warm breakfast of oatmeal. This was just about a daily experience for these dogs. Bubba and Bubbles are now gone and we no longer have dogs to cater to. Click here

Fresh Home Curing Olives

March 6, 2009 - "Fresh Home Curing Olives" By Joseph Parish. Being from a Greek family and my wife’s step father being Italian we both enjoy some good olives when we can find them. Usually we like those that are still in the brine and not so much the ones that you purchase in the jars. However in a pinch either will do just nicely. Click here

We Certainly Make it Easy for the Refugees

March 6, 2009 - "We certainly make it easy for the refugees" By Joseph Parish. Everyday I receive updated notices from the United States State Department and generally I merely delete them however this one listed below has managed to catch my attention and hold it for a while. Here we have a group of people who hate us and would like nothing better to do then to eliminate our way of life. Our homeland security does not seem to have any concern what so ever at allowing these Iraqi refugees into our country. It is no wonder that we have the terrorist attacks that we do as we seem to invite them to come to America. Click here

Can you still find Fogs to eat?

March 5, 2009 - "Can you still find frogs to eat?" By Joseph Parish. I recently read that the high demand for frog legs for human consumption has been making these creatures a bit on the scarce side. It appears that there is a vast decline in frog population in the wild due to over exploitation of them for foods both in America and Europe. It will not be long before the number of catches that you can have will be limited. In fact I fully expect that you will be required to have a Frog license just the same as a fishing license is currently required. Click here

Oh Fiddleheads

March 4, 2009 - "Oh Fiddleheads" by Joseph Parish. Few people may know what a fiddlehead is however if you do not you should make it a point to find out because you are missing a very delightful treat. Fiddleheads are young fern leaves which grow in a coil. They are approximately one inch in diameter. They originate from the ostrich fern. Keep in mind that all ferns develop fiddleheads however the best and safest are those from the ostrich fern. Click here

Obama’s wasted tax Dollars at work

March 2, 2009 - "Obama’s wasted tax Dollars at work" By Joseph Parish. It even seems like the National Basketball Association wants their share of the Obama hand out money. I read with unrestrained interest the recent news article concerning the borrowing of 175 million dollars by the NBA to serve towards teams which might be in financial difficulties at this time. They blame the weak global economy for the issue however let’s review how much these players actually take home. click here

FEMA and CERT Classes

March 1, 2009 - "FEMA and CERT Classes" By Joseph Parish. I have taken both FEMA classes and CERT courses and feel that both were very useful in preparation for eventual emergencies of any sort. One of Delmarva Survival Trainings main goals is to prepare our people to handle emergencies on their own and not be left at the mercy of our government to help them. As such we are gearing up for the spring time and would certainly like to have some actual hands on classroom style FEMA or CERT training. Click here

The X Cargo Roof Top Carriers and bugging out

February 28, 2009 - "The X Cargo Roof Top Carriers and bugging out" By Joseph Parish. Often times we drive down the highway and make a mental note of one of the cargo roof top carrier which appears on many of the vehicles that we pass. At once we start to wonder as to the value of these items during a possible bug out situation. Would they benefit us? Do they have any sort of merit in survival? These are questions which we need to answer. Click here

Severe Weather Week Begins

February 26, 2009 - "Severe Weather Week Begins" By Joseph Parish. It is that time of the year again! Around the nation many of our cities and states are making the necessary preparations to launch the severe weather week. Sever weather can strike just about any location in our nation and does so usually without warning of any sort. It is not restricted to the southern portion of our country or to the Midwest. We can at any time encounter hurricanes, tornados, flooding and a host of other inflections from mother nature without so much as a simple warning. Click here

Communications Capabilities

February 24, 2009 - "Communications Capabilities" By Joseph Parish. One of the foremost questions that many people ask is what they can do about obtaining valuable information and communicating with other people during times of crisis. The Fate of the Elderly during a Crisis

February 23, 2009 - "The Fate of the Elderly during a Crisis" By Joseph Parish. We often wonder what will be our reactions during some type of major disaster or crisis. There are more questions then we have answers for. Under the expected circumstances all we can do is guess as to what our actions will be. Click here

Is there a difference between short term and long term food storage

February 21, 2009 - "Is there a difference between short term and long term food storage? By Joseph Parish. When sitting among the various survival groups you often hear it said that someone is storing this or that for their short term storage and this and that for their long term storage. This is actually utter nonsense as the only difference in the short and the long term storage should be the quantity of products that are being stored. Click here

February 19, 2009 - "Storage of oil used for cooking" By Joseph Parish. It wasn’t too many years ago that I was employed at a local oil refinery.
